Pages are especially good for content that you want to remain the same, like an about page, a class roster, or bibliography.

Posts are better for content that you are updating regularly or want to be able to sort using categories and tags. This might include a blog, weekly readings, assignments, and/or discussions.

To collaborate on a group project or class website, you can create a new blog and add additional users to the blog/website.

Here is a tutorial on how to add new users. All members of the Marymount University community have an MU Blog account, so you can use the first directions for ‘Add User From Community’. You will need to use their official Marymount email.

Once you have added users you will need to select their permission levels or ‘user roles’. Here is a tutorial about how to change user roles.

Administrator

An administrator has full and complete ownership of a blog, and can do absolutely everything. This person has complete power over posts/pages, comments, settings, theme choice, import, users – the whole shebang. Nothing is off-limits, including deleting the entire blog.

Only one administrator per blog is recommended!

Editor

An editor can publish, edit, and delete any posts/pages, moderate comments, manage categories, manage tags, manage links and upload files/images.

This level of privileges might be ideal for a group of students working collaboratively on a blog or website as a class project.

Author

An author can edit, publish and delete their posts, as well as upload files/images.

This level of privileges might be ideal when multiple people are contributing individually to one site since they can not edit each others posts. One example would be a a class blog or website with student contributions.

Contributor

A contributor can edit their posts but cannot publish them. When a contributor creates a post, it will need to be submitted to an administrator for review. Once a contributor’s post is approved by an administrator and published, however, it may no longer be edited by the contributor.

A contributor does not have the ability to upload files/images.
