 PART 1: Individual Reflection

Working individually each student needs to post 1-3 sentences (a paragraph at most) for each of the following questions:

1)    Now that you have a better understanding of digital storytelling, how will you apply storytelling to your schoolwork?

2)    How has this course helped you become a more active participant in your learning?

3)    Now that you have made it through your first semester, what advice would you offer to incoming students about a) academics and b) social life at Marymount and c) student activities?

PART 2: Group Reflection

As a group, reflect on what you have learned and develop a 2-part 5-10 minute presentation that every member of your group participates in. Your presentation
should include the following:

Now that you have posted your digital stories to share with others:

  1. What did you DISCOVER when creating your stories? Were there any surprises?
  2. How do you hope stories will inspire others?
  3. What would you do different?

Develop a creative presentation (song, dance, skit, poem, etc.) promoting the theme of your groups digital stories to your classmates. This can be about the importance of your story, the meaning of your story, or and aspect of your story. Use of selected photographs, and video clips from your group’s digital stories is encouraged.

 

Monday, Dec. 5th in Lee Center – each group 10 photos and or video clips of Marymount faces

Thursday Dec. 8, in computer lab – edit and turn in final photo and video files.

DUE Monday Nov. 26th

  1. Have all pictures and video clips taken and ready to upload by Monday
  2. Have captions for photos, as well as each video- the caption for the taped interview clip should include an ID of the person(s) you interviewedCaptions can be- an anecdote, quote, or historical fact
  1. Also have descriptions and the links of the good cause you are going to connect your project to-EX: The MU sports group is connecting their project to the canned food drive that all the sports teams are competing in at MU for the holidays
  2. REMINDER:  Please upload videos to YouTube
  3. Have a paragraph written on why you chose your group topic in the first place (this will help with your intro. to your project)

12pts Individual Discovery Summary

Each student – Revised annotated bibliography of your individual discovery findings including:
Due October 24th

1. Five primary sources i.e. quotes, anecdotes, journals, statements in books or periodicals etc…
1.  Interviews with expertise on the subject
2. Interviews with individuals actively involved in your project topic – if relevant can be a classmate

- EACH student needs to be prepared to share a “WOW” factor of what they discovered while collecting their research

Each student in your group is required to research the
following sources and to compile a typewritten cited report –
A report of information that will be helpful to you and your
group in developing and explaining your digital story topic.

  1. Library (books, references)
  2. Internet
  3. Interviews
  4. On site research

Each student’s report must include at least five primary source
pieces of relevant information – interviews cannot be counted
as these primary sources:

  • Diaries
  • Personal letters
  • Book authors
  • Manuscripts
  • Newspaper & magazine articles

Each student is required to conduct 2 different types of interviews:

  1. Interviews with expertise on your topic
  • Professors or museum curators or historians or ambassadors, or chefs, or etc.
  1. Interviews with individuals actively involved in your project topic
  • DMV Fashionably dressing individuals,
    or individuals who frequent ethnic neighborhoods and restaurants in D.C.,
    or youth league, college team and adult league soccer players,
    or bicycle riders, hikers, and climbers etc…

Attend the screening of the documentary Stories From An Undeclared War
and the following Q &A  with Erin Gruwell, the Freedom Writers teacher.
A reception will follow the event.

Post a comment under “Storytelling” explaining:

  1. Why you thought this film was good storytelling?
    Why the imagery and dialogue were effective storytelling?
  2. How this story made you feel and why?

 

Due Monday September 26th 


Each member of your group needs to research your groups topic to determine
how best to make your story topic either of historic significance, a cultural influence,
or socially redeeming. Bring a summary of your findings to class for group discussion
and presentation to the class.
